JOY for the Mind
Theses are some of our great volunteer reading
coaches. We enjoyed a day out for lunch.
Some of our students were homeless and were absent from school for days, some experienced other family challenges. A couple of our students were non-English speaking. And we worked with them to learn the alphabet.
These are the students who especially need our ongoing assistance.

them excel academically!
Our Reading Program is with 2nd graders in a Title 1 School. The stars show the # of Fry Sight Words the students knew when we started with them, and the # of words gained by the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Some students made significant progress, however, far too many are still below grade level. We can coach more students when we have more
volunteers to help! The grade level equivalencies are based on the Reading Blocks program.
Serving with the Huntsville Pacesetters Lions Club to give away 1,200+ books to approximately 400 students
at New Market Elementary School.
